Micro Markets

Micro markets are the new technology trend the vending business has to offer their customers. Operators are getting into the business for different reason. Some HR people at vending accounts have been exposed to micro market at conventions they are going to and are requesting it from their vender. Other operators are getting into the business to stay the leader in their area and still others just want to add cashless to their operations.

Fresh Food And Micro Markets

Many operators are reporting that for the first time since they have been in business that fresh food has become more than a loss leader. Many operators are finding they are able to sell the same cold food in their micro market for more money and people are willing to pay the extra money.

Spoilage is more controllable because of the higher pricing. Most operators are saying that cold food in the micro market is doing 30% of the total business they are doing at these locations.

Healthy Choices

Healthy choices are an item that seems to be selling better through a micro market than they do through a vending machine. This makes the vender happy and the location happy so it is what I would call a win-win situation.

Cashless Advantage

Operators are seeing a 15 to 20 percent increase in top line sales revenue at locations that are switched over to a micro market. That is one big advantage driving the operator to start thinking about micro markets.


In the vending industry we are hearing that service calls are almost non-existent in the micro market. Sales are up at locations that the micro market is installed in. It opens the door to many more promotional opportunities than was available in vending.

In my opinion this is the future of vending and for those who have not gotten involved it could and probably will cost them business in the future. Being the leader in your area of the country could gain you that piece of business that you have wanting for sometime.

I think now is the time to start looking at the different companies that are supplying the equipment and technology to help venders enter into this market. I’m afraid that those who don’t may end up servicing only the small accounts that most venders try and stay away from.

Take a step out of your comfort zone and embrace what technology has to offer.
