Coin Sorters and Counters
There are coin counters and coin sorters. Coin counter is a term that can also be used when talking about a machine that will both count and sort money. Coin sorters sort coin out by different denominations that can be wrapped coin wrappers.
You can buy new coin counters for about $2,500.00 to $10,000.00. When starting out a $2,500.00 coin counter will be just fine. The cheaper models will do the job until you have a third route up and running.
The main difference between the lower priced unit and the more expensive unit is the speed in which they count. Also, the more expensive models will sort off foreign coin.
The sorting off of foreign coin is a feature you are not going to need because the coin mechanisms in your machines will do this for you before the coins ever reach the counter.
Let’s talk about the speed now. Up until the time you have three routes one person will be more than capable of counting the money for you.
You will need to count the bills and while you are either hand counting or machine counting the bills the coin counter will have plenty of time to count the coins.
You will also need to record the money in either a computer or a ledger so you know what each machine is doing in sales. All this takes time and so the need for the fastest counting machine available is not essential.
There are coin/bill counters. This is one machine that will do both jobs. I personally don’t recommend this type of machine. The biggest reason is if one needs repairs you have just lost both the ability to count bills and coins until the repairs have been made.
