Cleaning Your Vending Machine For More Profits

There are three major rules in the vending machine business and they are keep your equipment clean, filled and working. The cleaning of your vending equipment is a vital part of your success.

How many people do you know that want to buy food from a dirty machine? Even a machine in the dirtiest of environments will be expected to be kept clean.

Many of you are saying right now well that is elementary that people expect a machine to be kept clean. The simple truth of the matter is that keeping equipment clean seems to be one of the hardest things to get drivers to do.

There is a daily routine for cleaning your vending equipment. When this routine has been established, your vending equipment and its products will be more appealing.

Snack Machine Cleaning

Daily cleaning

With your favorite glass cleaner wipe the front of the machine down. Next open the door and clean the inside of the glass (the product hitting the glass gets it dirty).

The delivery tray needs attention each day also, there will be crumbs from the product in the bottom of it. If you can get to the sides of the machine they should be wiped off regularly.

Annually

Once a year you should remove the trays and take the coils out of the columns to be cleaned. The major trays that will need to be cleaned are the chip trays. The oil from the chips leaves a film on the tray and the coils. If these are not cleaned regularly the chip bags will not slide to the front and dispensing problems will start to plague the repair man.

Cold Food Machine Cleaning

Daily

The outside glass needs to be cleaned daily. If a driver will clean the trays that the food sits on when they are empty and are about to be refilled the machine will stay in good shape for your customers.

Monthly Cleaning

The cooling unit should be cleaned monthly. Lint builds up on the coils restricting the flow of air which causes the cooling unit to work harder.

Pop Machine Cleaning

Daily

Wipe down the outside of the machine.

Monthly

The cooling unit should be cleaned monthly. Lint builds up on the coils restricting the flow of air which causes the cooling unit to work harder. Traditional pop machines require very little cleaning and are a solid money maker.

Glass Front Pop Machine

Daily

Clean the outside and inside of the glass and wipe off the front of the vending machine. Another area that needs daily attention is the slides that the pop slides to the front of the machine on. If the driver will take a paper towel and wipe the slide down when they are refilling it they will eliminate 95% of all problems with this type of machine.

Monthly

The cooling unit should be cleaned monthly. Lint builds up on the coils restricting the flow of air which causes the cooling unit to work harder.

Summary

When machines are kept clean you eliminate 80% of the normal problems that maintenance men see on a daily basis. Cleaning is something that should be a part of every drivers daily routine.

If you are paying your drivers on a commission basis always allow enough commission so that they will do a good job of cleaning. My suggestion here would be pay by the hour so they have no excuse for not cleaning.
